It was a mixed blessing to have famous parents. It was tough to go to auditions and be bad, since I couldn't be anonymous.

I always loved movies. My parents were doing a lot more nightclubs, doing plays, and doing some TV, but not too many movies. I remember my dad was in Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three, and I remember going to a location shoot one night. He had a scene in a tollbooth on the Tri-Borough Bridge in New York with Walter Matthau. He took me with him one night, and they were shooting this one scene all night. It was in 1974, so I was about nine or something, and I remember thinking it was the coolest thing to stay up all night and they were doing this one scene over and over again, and the cameras and the lights — it was really exciting for me. I thought it was awesome, and I thought, "I want to do this."

I pay a huge chunk of money to my agent and publicity people to shield me from my fan mail. I don't even want to know how many letters I get. I don't see fan mail as a good thing. It always makes me think of stalkers.

I have a lot of nervous energy. Work is my best way of channelling that into something productive unless I want to wind up assaulting the postman or gardener.

We covered "Hey Jude." My father panicked, misunderstanding the lyrics and thinking our lead singer was belting out "Hey, Jew" to a roomful of Holocaust survivors.

I think most actors have incredibly big egos, but they're also incredibly insecure. That's a bad combination. I include myself in this group. For whatever psychological reasons, we want and need approval from everybody in the universe, though we also think we're totally unworthy of it. We need to validate ourselves through our work.
