I once had a friend call me (Harry) by accident. If there's another person in the room called Harry and somebody shouts their name I do respond slightly, which is embarrassing. But no one has ever said it in the throws of passion. That would be the end of that session.

People tell me I look mournful. They say, "Cheer up, Dan, it's not that bad!" Sometimes I just look into space, which freaks people out. If I was ever required to do anything other than look haunted, I could. I'm a happy person. Though I don't, like, dot my "I's" with hearts or anything -- that would be too happy.

I've not got a girlfriend at the moment. Somebody said, "Do you worry girls are just giving you attention because of who you are?" I was like, "I'm 17, it's wonderful."

I really do want to direct. I feel like having to make a creative decision every minute of every day would just be so exciting. The phrase that I hate is when actors describe themselves as "artists." That really bugs me. Because I go, "No, you're not, you’re the paint." We're what directors and writers use to color their material. Good actors elevate it to somewhere else, but ultimately you can only be creative in certain parameters; whereas, as the director, you just have free reign in a way.

I don't know what to do with it. I'm very fortunate to have it, and it gives you room to maneuver. But the main thing about having money is it means you don't have to worry about it. And that for me is a lovely thing. It's not for fast cars and hookers.

Probably on the last day [of shooting] I'll get emotional, but not for the reasons anyone would expect. Not because I'm leaving behind a character. I will be sad about that, but that'll happen six months after. That's normally when I think: God, I could have one more go at that. Although, to be fair, I'll have had eight goes at Harry Potter by that time. But I'll be sad because I'll miss all my friends that I worked with every day. It'll feel like a tribe splitting up.

One thing I did take I did ask for. I would have stolen it had they not given it to me. But I did ask for it and they complied, was the glasses. I've got two sets of the glasses. One from the first movie, which are tiny now, and one from the last movie. And there both the lens-less pairs, because that's the ones we used more often, so they're the ones I associated more with Harry. Yeah, those would be my souvenirs.

I can't tell how far this phenomenon stretches because I'm so in the centre of it. I can't see the edges. I'm aware of it being a phenomenon, because you can hardly not be when you disembark a plane in Japan and there are 5,000 people waiting for you. It was overwhelming for a 12 or 13 year old. But I do sometimes look back and go: God, how did I do this when I was young? How did I cope with this? But when you're 11, I suppose you have more energy.... You have to dismiss it as being ridiculous. And realise they're not there for you, they're there because you play this character. If I play another role, there won’t be 5,000 people to greet me at an airport. It's Harry more than me. And as long as you make that distinction, it's easier to cope with it.
